Terms of Use

The ground rules for using The Garage Door Repair Seattle, a free garage door quote service for Seattle, Washington and nearby suburbs. Plain language, short sections.

What this service is

The Garage Door Repair Seattle is a referral service. We pass your garage door request to independent local companies that may contact you with quotes. We are not a contractor and are not registered with Washington's Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) as one. We don't perform repairs or installations, employ technicians, set prices, schedule visits or provide warranties.

Free, with no obligation

Using the site and requesting quotes is free for homeowners. You're under no obligation to hire any company that contacts you.

How we're paid

Participating companies may pay us to receive requests, usually a flat amount per request. That doesn't change what you pay the company, and it isn't an endorsement.

The companies are independent

Any agreement for work is between you and the company you choose. That company is responsible for its work, pricing, insurance, estimate, warranty and conduct. We don't verify registration, insurance, reviews or qualifications. Before hiring, we suggest you:

  • Check the company's L&I registration. Washington requires garage door companies to be registered with L&I as contractors; there is an "Overhead/garage doors" specialty. Registered contractors carry a bond (at least $15,000 for a specialty contractor, $30,000 for a general contractor) and liability insurance, and must show their registration number in ads (RCW 18.27.100). Look any company up on L&I's Verify a Contractor tool. Garage door companies are registered, not licensed; electricians are licensed. A new outlet or circuit for an opener is electrical work for a licensed electrical contractor.
  • Ask for a written estimate, including any trip or diagnostic fee, before work starts. For jobs of $1,000 or more, the contractor must give you a written "Notice to Customer" before work starts (RCW 18.27.114).
  • Ask for an itemized invoice that lists the parts replaced, and ask for your old parts back. Washington's Consumer Protection Act (RCW 19.86.020) bans unfair or deceptive practices, and consumers can recover actual damages, up to triple damages capped at $25,000, and attorney fees (RCW 19.86.090). Complaints go to the Washington Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division; unregistered contractors can be reported to L&I at 1-888-811-5974.
  • Know your cancellation rights where they apply. If you finance a new door or opener through a contract signed at your home, Washington's Retail Installment Sales Act (RCW 63.14.154) and the FTC's Cooling-Off Rule can give you until midnight of the third business day to cancel, by certified mail under the state law. Repairs you called a company out for are generally treated differently. Look for the cancellation notice before you sign.

Information on this site

Content here, including prices, safety notes and summaries of Washington and federal rules, is general information. It isn't professional, engineering or legal advice. Prices are published estimates, not quotes, and Seattle-area quotes vary. Rules change, so confirm anything important with the company, your city's permit center, L&I or a lawyer.

Consent to contact

By submitting a request, you confirm the information is yours and accurate, and you give prior express consent for the site operator and matched companies to contact you by phone, text or email about it, including by automated means. Consent isn't a condition of any purchase. You can ask us to stop at any time. See the privacy policy.

Acceptable use

Don't submit false requests, someone else's details, spam or anything unlawful, and don't try to disrupt, overload or scrape the site. Garage door companies that want to receive requests should say so in the form rather than submitting test requests.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, The Garage Door Repair Seattle isn't liable for the work, pricing, delays, damages or conduct of any company you hire, or for decisions you make based on this site. The site is provided as is, without warranties of any kind.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington.
